Maintenance tech jobs involve doing repairs and keeping facilities in good working conditions at the place of work. In most cases, technician jobs entail the general maintenance of assets in the workplace and do not demand a lot of special skills.

The technician is also responsible for identifying when the task assigned is beyond their capabilities, rather than resulting in further damage.

Some general technician jobs, despite the type of company, include performing routine maintenance tasks. Communicating any existing issues with assets to their supervisors and advising on the necessary course of action is also the role of a technician.

The maintenance guy also cleans the tools they work with. They are also responsible for adhering to the set safety protocols and observing policies. Here is a breakdown of the types of technician roles that you may expect.

a. An Industrial Maintenance Tech

These technicians are responsible for troubleshooting mechanical issues, installing new machines in the industry, monitoring the machines’ performance, and maintaining them.

b. Building Maintenance Tech

These technicians deal with plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems in buildings. They are responsible for dealing with any technical issues that people realize in their properties. They are also required to ensure that the safety systems within a structure are well-maintained and functional at all times.

c. Fleet Maintenance Tech

These technicians are specialized in responsibilities such as diagnosing, servicing, and doing repairs in fleet vehicles. They also do preventive maintenance of fleet vehicles regularly.

2. Required Skills To Be A Maintenance Tech

Maintenance tech jobs require certain specific skills for someone to be able to perform their daily duties. These skills are essential and, in most cases, are learned during on-the-job training, despite the level of formal education qualification. Here are some of the required skills:

a. Problem-Solving Skills

Technicians should be able to troubleshoot any time it is necessary. A good technician should be able to identify an issue with the system and the right course of action required to set it back to functioning normally.

The technician should be able to solve these problems effectively, regardless of whether they happened unexpectedly or within a certainly expected time frame.

b. Wide Technical Knowledge

A technician is expected to solve various technical issues within the organization. For this reason, they need to know almost everything technical within the organization.

The technicians should be able to perform different technical issues without too much effort and effectively.

c. Attention To Detail

Technicians need to be able to focus on every technical detail, no matter how minor it may seem to them. Any slight mistakes during the maintenance of technical assets could fail the entire system, which means repeating the entire repair process, which is time-consuming and tiring.

d. Physical Ability

Most technician jobs require the handling of heavy machinery, and therefore physical energy is a basic requirement. You may also be forced to work in different awkward positions according to how the asset is designed.

As a technician, you may also be forced to do some heavy lifting and stand on your feet for long periods. This might be challenging if you are in a poor physical state or have existing physical health conditions.

e. Basic Computer Skills

Maintenance tech jobs also require some basic computer skills because, with technological improvements, everything is now done using technology, such as filling out records. You also need to know how to use a smartphone for communication purposes.
