The Interconnectedness of the Japan Indo-Pacific and Transatlantic Region
According to NATO head Jens Stoltenberg following a meeting with the prime minister of Japan, Transatlantic and Indo-Pacific areas are interconnected in terms of security.
The head of NATO stated on Tuesday that the Indo-power Pacific’s structure is quickly changing.
“The globe is at a historical inflection point in the most severe and complicated security climate since the end of World War II,” said Jens Stoltenberg at a joint news conference following a conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in Tokyo, Japan.
He stressed that this situation necessitates further deepening of the collaboration between Japan and the coalition, arguing that the security of the Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific are closely related.
The Threat of China’s Growing Military Might
He said that Japan and NATO both believe that changing the status quo unilaterally through pressure or force is unacceptable anywhere in the globe.
Stoltenberg highlighted that the alliance directly opposed any independent attempts to change the current situation in the East China Sea through coercion or force and issued a warning about China’s growing military might.
We strongly urge China to increase transparency and work constructively with international initiatives for nuclear disarmament, disarmament, and non-proliferation in light of the country’s quick upgrading of its conventional forces and expansion of military exercises, he continued.
According to Stoltenberg, the alliance continues to support a diplomatic solution to the Taiwan issue.
“We encourage North Korea to completely adhere to all applicable UN Security Council resolutions and to renounce its nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs, as well as any other mass destruction weapon and nuclear missile programs,” he added in reference to North Korea.
Importance of the Nato-Japan Collaboration
Recognizing the close ties between transatlantic and Indo-Pacific security, the two leaders signed a joint declaration outlining their shared goal of enhancing NATO-Japan collaboration.
The Current Situation, and the Future
The Secretary-General and Prime Minister Kishida spoke on the world’s mounting problems, ranging from North Korea’s provocative military actions to China’s coercive behavior. They concurred that the harsh war of aggression waged by Russia against Ukraine poses a threat to the global order as well as to Europe. “Beijing is watching intently and gathering lessons that may affect its future judgments,” Mr. Stoltenberg admonished. He emphasized the significance of keeping solid and united in the face of authoritarian governments’ resistance to the international system of rules-based order.
The Secretary-General praised Japan’s strong sanctions against Russia and its substantial humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian people in his remarks about Japan’s effective support for Ukraine.
