The world is ever-evolving, and at this pace, the least man can do is identify gaps in the growth of their communities to solve. Otherwise, people and their local communities will be left behind. This is a story of how negligible things can result in amplified solutions even in local communities; this is a story of AVIRAN Consults.
Water scarcity is a critical challenge in many African regions, disproportionately impacting women and girls who bear the burden of securing essential, often limited, water supplies. AVIRAN Consults comes to the rescue in these conditions. A locally context-driven Water Sanitation and Hygiene Consultancy that utilises data analytics and laboratory research to provide client-tailored WASH interventions in Africa incorporates indigenous knowledge into their approach, thus leading to high project success rates. They also promote storytelling, using it as a feedback mechanism for communities.
Their mission is to improve lives by providing innovative and sustainable WASH solutions tailored to their Client’s needs. Their vision is to be a global leader in WASH consultancy, pioneering transformative solutions.
AVIRAN Consults was founded by Isaac Akoit in 2022 in Uganda and registered in the Netherlands in 2023. The inspiration behind the consultancy’s inception was the failed water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects. The gap identified was related to the duplication of designs and practices, with limited attention to social dynamics and indigenous technical knowledge. For instance, on a rainy day, you will find women and girls walking long distances to fetch water from a spring or well. What does this communicate to a consultant, and how relatable are the available statistics? To address some of these issues, the founder sought to explore data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and laboratory-based research in WASH.
In addition to acknowledging the significance of safe water to the sanitation value chain, there was a need to understand the water footprint of sanitation technologies and communities. AVIRAN Consults designed an application that would address these issues and provide water-utility customers with the ability to leverage data analytics for personalized user experiences.
Moreover, several projects often lacked clear feedback mechanisms, which prompted the consultancy to integrate podcasts into monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
AVIRAN Consults is currently running a podcast series called “Whispers from the Dark Hole” under the Sani-Cast title.
On top of this, the consultancy is working on integrating drone technology for data-driven solutions in water resources management, sanitation infrastructure assessments, community engagement, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
AVIRAN Consults specializes in designing, implementing, and managing water supply systems that meet the needs of communities, institutions, and industries. Their services include assessing water sources, developing water treatment plans, constructing pipelines and storage facilities, and implementing efficient distribution networks. They prioritize the use of environmentally friendly and cost-effective technologies to ensure the provision of a safe and reliable water supply.
The consultancy offers a range of sanitation solutions to improve access to clean sanitation facilities and promote hygiene practices. They work closely with their clients to develop tailored sanitation strategies, including the construction of sanitation infrastructure such as toilets, septic tanks, and wastewater treatment plants. The team also conducts hygiene awareness campaigns and provides training to foster behaviour change and promote good hygiene practices.
AVIRAN Consults provides services to its customers, whose primary customers are government agencies, NGOs, private enterprises, and communities in need of water sanitation and hygiene solutions. We have not received feedback from them. AVIRAN Consults believes that access to clean water, clean sanitation, and adequate hygiene practices are fundamental rights for every individual. They are committed to addressing the global challenges in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) by providing innovative solutions and expertise.
You could also join the AVIRAN Consults campaign by taking a stand with them in the Clean/Safe Waters Now campaign, where they strive to make a splash for change! This campaign is to help everyone turn the tide and make waves of change.
AVIRAN consultants need public and customer support through feedback, advocacy, and loyalty. Your engagement helps them improve, so spread the word, and they’ll continue delivering quality service. Your trust and recommendations are invaluable for their growth and success because now they’ve not succeeded in breaking even, but they are not giving up. The consultancy is currently seeking investors to move some of its innovations from the concept and prototype phases to the market. The desired amount is €200,000–€500,000.
The founder of Aviran Consults joined the water sector in 2014 as a water treatment plant operator and was later elevated to the position of Quality Control Officer responsible for water and wastewater treatment. Isaac Akoit has extensive experience in running mega-treatment plants that spans over a decade. He has been involved in several water-related research projects in Uganda, such as developing an algae species database that can be used in pollution management and most recently investigating pathogen removal efficiency from onsite containment units (toilets and septic tanks).
Also, Isaac has a couple of innovations, such as the Borehole Tubular Filtration Unit (BOTUFU) and an automated quality control Excel-based model that provides predictive trends in water quality based on historical data. This is currently being tested using Python programming.
AVIRAN Consults deeply appreciate the trust and support from customers and viewers. Their commitment remains to provide you with exceptional quality and service in WASH. Your feedback is invaluable, and they look forward to continuing this journey together. Thank you for being with us.
This goes beyond failed water sanitation projects and gaps identified. This is proof that even negligible things are worth solving for us to completely evolve. This is about emphasizing consultations and inquiries to provide solutions that are needed because most solutions are provided independently of the people in need, leading to inappropriate solutions. AVIRAN Consults is helping us revolutionize water sanitation and hygiene through appropriate consulting and data-driven innovation. Thus, they excel on this premise, and everyone should resonate with such a model.
