The Cheltenham Festival is almost upon us and let’s face it, for many of us it’s one of the few times a year we’ll have a bet on the horses. But it’s also fair to say that when that’s the case, we don’t exactly know what we’re doing.
From betting on the horses with the best name to backing the jockeys we’ve simply heard of, there are some interesting tactics out there, and rarely do they provide a winner.
However, sometimes all it can take is listening to the experts.
Throughout the Cheltenham Festival many of the most famous names in the game provide top Cheltenham betting tips and listening to them can help boost your chances of winning. But who are the best tipsters and pundits to listen to?
Ruby Walsh
No person has done more at Cheltenham than Ruby Walsh. He’s a legend of the sport and across his career he rode a staggering 59 winners at the festival, more than any other jockey in history.
He won the Gold Cup twice on Kauto Star in 2007 and 2009, and knows the festival inside out. Today, he’s one of the most popular pundits around, providing tips for the likes of Paddy Power and ITV Racing and each day he’ll be offering his insight on all the big races of the day.
Mick Fitzgerald
Another man who knows his way around the Cheltenham track is Mick Fitzgerald. The 52-year-old enjoyed leading jockey status at the festival in both 1999 and 2000, winning the Gold Cup in the former on Paul Nicholls’ See More Business.
Fitzgerald had to retire early due to injury, but that’s only seen him hone his punditry skills, starting his post-racing career on At The Races in 2013, before moving to Channel 4. Today he’s at ITV and is still involved in racing as part of Nicky Henderson’s stable, giving him plenty of insider knowledge.
Matt Chapman
Matt Chapman has never been at the starting post, but he has been in the industry for many years and today is one of the sport’s top broadcasters. He began his career as a writer for The Racing Post back in the 1990s before joining the broadcast team at At The Races, where his career has gone from strength-to-strength.
He provides tips for both bookmakers and as part of the ITV Racing team, and will be a prominent figure to look out for when thinking about placing your bets at the Cheltenham Festival.
