How Instagram Algorithms Work In 2024

The social network is introducing 4 important changes to the Reels recommendation system. Let’s take a closer look together with our Instagram promotion agency from the UAE. First, about the new changes, Instagram has finally decided to help small bloggers and creators of original content! To do this, the social network has made four changes to its Instagram algorithms:

1. New Instagram Algorithms for Ranking Content That Will Allow Small Creators to Get Into Recommendations More Often.

Previously, the Instagram algorithms ranked content primarily based on how ACCOUNT FOLLOWERS interacted with it. This meant that accounts with the most followers often had the greatest reach.

The new algorithms should give all bloggers an equal chance. Now Instagram will show your videos first to a small audience that the algorithms think will like it (regardless of whether these people follow your account or not).

If this audience actively interacts with your video, it will be recommended to a slightly wider audience, then an even wider audience, and so on.

That is, according to the idea, now whether your content gets into recommendations will depend not on how many subscribers you have who are ready to swallow any of your content, but on how high-quality your content is.

2. Reuploaded Videos In Recommendations Will Be Replaced With Original Content.

The company said that they plan to actively replace republished materials in recommendations with “original” ones when identical “audio and video fragments” are detected.

The update will not affect creators who make “significant” changes to the original post, such as adding a voiceover or “significant editing to transform the video into a meme.”

That is, if someone brazenly reuploads your reel with cats, then when it gets into recommendations, the platform will replace the plagiarism with your original video. And it will be the one that is shown in the rivers.

3. Reuploaded Content Will Be Tagged With A Link To The Original Author with Updated Instagram Algorithms

In addition to the fact that reuploaded content will be removed from recommendations, such videos will also receive a special label with a link to the author, which will remain visible to subscribers of the account that made the repost.

4. Content Aggregators Will Be Excluded from Recommendations

Accounts that consistently repost content from other Instagram users without adding significant value or making meaningful changes will be excluded from recommendations. Specifically, repeat offenders who have shared unoriginal content 10 or more times in the past 30 days will no longer appear in Instagram’s recommendation feeds.

At the same time, such accounts will be able to appear in recommendations again after 30 days have passed since their last publication of unoriginal content (this can be checked using the account status, where they will also have the opportunity to appeal).

This innovation will not affect accounts that have license agreements and/or permissions from content creators.

In other words, shadow bans have become a reality.

a. Content that interferes with the ability to build a safe community;

b. Sensitive or low-quality health or financial content;

c. Political content, potentially related to laws, elections, or social issues;

d. Content associated with low-quality publications, such as unoriginal content that is largely borrowed from another source without adding material value;

e. Use of misleading content.

Conclusion on Updated Instagram Algorithms

So, in a significant move to support small bloggers and creators of original content, Instagram has introduced four key changes to its Reels recommendation system. These updates aim to promote high-quality content, reduce plagiarism, and maintain a safe community. By giving creators an equal chance to shine, Instagram is leveling the playing field and encouraging innovation. With these changes, the focus shifts from follower count to content quality, ensuring that users see more original and engaging videos in their recommendations.
